Space Structures are all buildings generated outside of Space Station 13.
Space Structures can range from a literal weed post, to a hundred year old station that has many sectors of it fucked. Space Structures are very dangerous, but may contain valuable loot. But most of the time it contains useless bazinga that you will not even use because you'll be Dead before you get the chance to return to the station.
In this article, we will be viewing the dangers of Space Structures and their benefits.
What to do if I'm stuck in a space structure?
Don't panic. if you've gotten to this point it means you have survived (or not) the biggest challenge of Space, the vacuum! The vacuum is the most dangerous factor of space, since if your Oxygen supply runs out, or your Suit's thermal control battery runs out, and you don't have replacements/are not near a structure you're dead.
Here's a quick list of three questions you should ask yourself when entering a structure:
- Is it a Ruin?
Ruins are destroyed structures, that generally have broken areas (if not being an entire wreckage), and tend to have more Critters, or they can have none at all. An example of a ruin is the Derelict. Structures in good condition generally have powered APCs, Lights and no damage whatsoever, they tend to have zones where you can take off your space suit and have internals off. They tend to have less Critters. But they can sometimes have more.
- Are there Hostile Critters?
Critters are by far the biggest hazard in structures, Structures have many dangerous Critters, and generally are all A.I controlled, examples being Xenomorphs, Spiders, Syndicate Operatives and many more. Those Critters can kill you really quickly, so avoid them at all costs. Fight them if they get too close to you. It may be better to not enter a structure if you believe it's heavily guarded on the inside, like The White Ship.
- Is there a player in there?
Check if there are any players in the structure. It is a very large chance that there is no player. But if there is, the player is likely to have spawned from a ghost role.
Examine the player (Shift + click) and check if they have a Syndicate ID, if not, it's safe for you to enter and talk to them, if yes, you probably already guessed it, because he's likely shooting at the window.
Adding on to the no answer, then it's very likely that you have found Charlie Station, a station abandoned by Nanotrasen, but still has Crew members in it, if you ask them something, they will likely be very surprised someone from the Station made it there, and they will likely be glad to help you go home. Or they might force you to be a slave, it's their choice.
After identifying your surroundings, it's time to leave. These are the ways to leave:
In some structures, there are Gateways, they are basically portals, most of them are linked with the station, so you should try finding a gateway, but it is likely your structure doesn't have one, if it does, you can just mess with the gateway and the room's power untill you find a way of turning it on, the gateway's controls might be located in another room. A notable Ruin that has a gateway is The Derelict.
- EVA Flight
Sometimes the world doesn't take it easy on you (by giving you a gateway), but hope is not yet lost! quick, you don't have much time. Find a Global Positioning Sytem (GPS), this will help you locate the station, there is likely a GPS on your structure for as small as it may seem. You are likely going to need O2 Tanks, since your O2 Tank will not last forever, so grab a couple. You should optionally find a Power Cell, a screwdriver and a crowbar to recharge your Space Suit. You should, also optionally try to find a Jetpack, but you can replace it with a Fire Extinguisher which is way more common, a weapon is also recommended for fending off those damn critters.
- Scenario Alpha: You've geared up and found a GPS
Great! now do as it follows:
- I.Turn on your GPS
- II.Find the "COM0" signal, which is default for all GPS units on the station
- III.Head towards it's coordinates
- Bonus: if your fire extinguisher/jetpack runs out and you are not heading the correct direction, you can throw an item from your inventory in the opposite direction of where you want to head in order to move towards the opposite of the opposite direction. (Trust me, this is way less complicated than it sounds.)
- Scenario Beta: You've geared up, but did not find a GPS
It's not yet lost. Sure it will be a lot harder, but, straight to the point: remember the direction that brought to you to this wreckage? good! head towards that direction and you may end up in home.
If you don't remember which direction you have followed, first and most importantly, You have alzheimers. you're fucked. Try going in a random direction and you can only hope you find the way.
- Scenario Charlie: You're lost, you don't have gear for leaving or you're stuck
You're completly screwed. The only thing you can do is asking the Space Gods if they can kindly teleport you to the station, however that may not work. Good Luck.
