Whenever to use the Brig cell or Labor Camp is up to Warden or HoS. The recommended amount of points for various crime severities is listed at Space Law.

# Take cuffed prisoner to labor camp teleporter (AKA telegulag).
Gulagging People
# Make sure you put all their items (INCLUDING THEIR ID) ON them, the telegulag will automatically strip and store it, don't leave things lying around on ground!! Except contraband, make sure you take that obviously.

# Put cuffed prisoner in telegulag, click on it to close it.
#Take the cuffed prisoner to the labor camp teleporter (called telegulag).
# If they try to be funny and don't cooperate (they can instantly resist out of the telegulag even while cuffed), just stun them.
#Make sure they have all their items, including their ID, on them. The telegulag will automatically strip and store their items.
# Click on the console next to the telegulag, hit "lock" to lock the telegulag shut. Now they can't resist out of it instantly.
#Put the cuffed prisoner in the telegulag and close it by clicking on it.
# Take a prisoner ID and put it in the console.
#If the prisoner doesn't cooperate, stun them.
# Set a point target.
#Lock the telegulag shut by clicking on the console next to it and hitting "lock".
# Make sure to say, "Glory to Nanotrasen."
#Take a prisoner ID and put it in the console.
# Hit "process prisoner" and they will be automatically uncuffed and teleported down to gulag. Pick up your cuffs to re-use.
#Set a target location.
#(Optional) Say, "Glory to Nanotrasen!"

#Pick up your cuffs to reuse them.

They can automatically get their items back once they do their point sentence and come back up; on some maps they can even let themselves out. HOWEVER, make sure you go onto the actual gulag shuttle and get the materials! Then go insert them into the seclathe. In addition, you should set the prisoner's wanted status to "Discharged" after they have completed their sentence.
After completing their sentence and returning, prisoners can automatically retrieve their belongings. On certain maps, prisoners may even be able to release themselves. However, it's important to board the actual gulag shuttle to obtain the necessary materials and then insert them into the seclathe. Additionally, remember to update the prisoner's status to "Discharged" once their sentence is served.

The telegulag is a great tool when you have to deal with mobs or riots or just generally processing a lot of people. Once you learn how to do it quick it requires a LOT less time than individually brigging someone, and it also keeps track of their items much more effectively, since things tend to get lost when the brig gets busy.
The telegulag is an invaluable tool for managing mobs, riots, or processing large numbers of individuals. Once you've mastered the process, it significantly reduces the time spent compared to individually brigging someone. Moreover, it ensures better tracking of their belongings, especially during busy periods when items tend to get misplaced in the brig.

Prisoner's Guide to Being Gulagged
Serving the Gulag
# Welcome to the labor camp, scum. Make sure to let out a mournful sigh and perhaps hum a working man's tune. Then get to work!
#Arrive at the labor camp and get ready to work.
# If it's not already down, go ahead and call the gulag shuttle down. Then use the "point claim console" in the wall on the prisoner side of the shuttle to check your points requirement, and how much different materials are worth.
#If the gulag shuttle isn't there, call it. Check the console on the prisoner side to see how many points you need and the value of materials.
# First things you are going to need: Breath mask and oxy tank (found in the blue internals crate)
# Grab a breath mask and oxy tank from the blue crate.
# Next up: get a manual mining scanner, ore satchel, and of course your trusty pickaxe! Optionally you can also take a flashlight and pair of mesons. Turn those internals on, go out the airlock, and get to work!
#Get a mining scanner, ore satchel, and pickaxe. You can take a flashlight and mesons if you want. Turn on your internals and start working outside.
# You are gonna have to manually press Z to use the scanner. Find the nearest ores and start mining towards them. Remember that you can click on several tiles with the pickaxe at once to mine more at the same time, and that rarer materials are worth more points!
#Press Z to use the scanner. Mine ores and prioritize rare ones for more points. If there's an ash storm, go inside.
# Remember that if it starts to ash storm outside, you need to get your ass back inside!
#When you have enough ores, go back inside to the smelter. Drop ores in front of the unloading machine.
# Once you have a good amount of ores, go back inside to the smelter. IMPORTANT: YOU HAVE TO SMELT THE ORES FOR THEM TO BE WORTH ANY POINTS!! Stand in front of the "unloading machine" and drop the ores onto the ground, it will automatically pick them up.
#Flip the switch to start smelting. Use the console to select ores for smelting.
# Flip the switch on the conveyor belt.
#If you have extra materials, use crates to move them to the gulag shuttle and put them in the stacking machine.
# Finally you have to use the "production machine console". For each ore you are smelting, you have to select it (by pressing the button that says "not smelting" so that it says "smelting") and then scroll down and turn it on. It starts on iron by default. Note that after it finishes smelting one material, it will turn back off.
#Claim your points at the console. If you have enough, move the shuttle.
# If you have a bunch of materials, use one of the crates around to move them to the gulag shuttle. You then have to insert them into the "stacking machine" by either clicking on it or just dropping/dragging the materials in front of the machine.
#Stay on the shuttle until it leaves.
# Go to the "point claim console" and hit claim points, if you have enough then hit move shuttle. If you don't, go mine some more!
#Back at the station, go to the equipment station on the wall. Click "retrieve items" next to your name. Ask for help if you can't leave on your own.
# Once you are able to send the shuttle up, make sure to stay on board until it launches.

# When you get back to station, exit the shuttle and go to the blue "equipment reclaimer station" in the wall and click on it, then hit "retrieve items" next to your name. Some maps let you exit by yourself, others don't, ask security or the AI to let you out if you have to!
Gulag Oversight
Having someone stationed at the Gulag to oversee prisoners isn't essential. The lava mouth between the Gulag and the rest of the lavaland serves as a natural barrier, making escapes unlikely. However, having officers stationed there poses a risk of them being harmed or lost.

If supervision is necessary, it can be done remotely using security cameras. Near the Gulag, there's a post on the lavaland that connects it with the rest of the Mining Outpost.
